The Rivitalo housing community, consisting of 15 apartments, faced the challenge of providing Electric Vehicle (EV) charging facilities without significant infrastructural modifications or common costs. One private customer in the community owned a Tesla and expressed the need for an EV charger. However, the housing company’s existing electrical lines were outdated, and plans for a comprehensive EV charging station were scheduled for the distant future. In order to solve this problem, Koticharge offered an innovative strategy that not only met the customer’s current charging needs but also created a foundation for future growth and sustainable electrification.
Challenges that the housing company faced
The housing company’s electrical lines were constructed in the 80s and lacked the capacity to support multiple EV chargers without significant upgrades.
However one of the residents is a Tesla driver and he had the need for an EV charger to be installed. He agreed with the Rivitalo Housing Company on some certain conditions.
One of the conditions is that the housing company wanted to make sure that the customer is the one who is bearing all the expenses.They wished to avoid any shared costs for the EV charging infrastructure.
Another important thing was to keep the heating poles for other residents so they can still use them to heat their cars.
Company planned to renovate the line in the future but not in the next 2 years, so they wanted to make sure that the customer could revert everything back to its original condition if needed.

When the housing company needs to renovate the whole line we just take the charger back without additional charges.
In this case there were two residents with the need of EV charging. They can share the charger. KotiCharge mobile app, which can be downloaded in AppStore and GooglePlay, provides a charging slot booking system for the hassle-free charging. Users can book a slot overnight up to 12 hours, and remove the cable in the morning when going to work. Once the slot ends, the cable is automatically unplugged so that the next user can plug their cable in. Considering the fact that our customer uses the charger only twice a week it will be very convenient to share it with the neighbor by using our booking system.
