VTT

Operator service and planning future enhancements like automatic plug & charge and load balancing.

VTT Oy, based in Espoo, Finland, is a leading research and technology company in the Nordic countries, driving innovation in various industries to create sustainable growth.

Project Highlights:

  • One Mobile App For Different Charger
  • Brands Advanced Load Balancing
  • Automatic Plug&Charge

The primary goal of KotiCharge’s cooperation with the VTT Company was to operate an EV charging network at the company’s parking lot and make the chargers accessible for users through the KotiCharge mobile app. We will also deploy our Automatic plug & charge feature as well as install the load balancing machine in the future. In Koticharge we are implementing each feature one at a time utilizing our phased method.

Phase 1: Operating the chargers

In Phase one, KotiCharge successfully operated two ABB chargers and two Kempower chargers at the designated parking area of VTT Company. This made it possible for EV owners to easily charge their cars using the KotiCharge mobile app. The app simplifies the charging process and supports the use of electric vehicles by giving users access to real-time information about charger availability and automatic invoicing.

Phase 2: Implementation of Automatic Plug & Charge

KotiCharge is installing cameras at the charging stations as part of Phase Two, which is now taking place to enable the Automatic plug & charge feature that provides a seamless, Tesla-like charging experience. Drivers only need to connect the EV charging cable to the charging point, and the car will begin to charge right away without any additional steps.

Phase 3: Load Balancing Across Multiple Chargers

In Phase Three, KotiCharge is getting ready to set up the new load balancing device to balance the load among all the chargers.
To evenly share the charging load among all the chargers, including the four Keba chargers that are also present in this lot, KotiCharge uses cutting-edge load balancing algorithms. This clever system will keep track of how many chargers are in use, balance the load among AC and DC chargers on the same electrical line and dynamically change charging rates to avoid overloading any one charger while maximizing the use of all charging ports and enabling fast charging.

Conclusion

KotiCharge demonstrated its commitment to innovation and sustainability by taking a phased approach to building the EV charging network at VTT Company. A seamless, effective, and user-friendly EV charging experience is now provided by the effective operation of chargers, integration of the mobile app, introduction of automated plug and charge, and future implementation of load balancing.
